Attorney General Corbett announces 5-to-10 year prison sentence for Harrisburg child predator

September 2, 2007

Attorney General Tom Corbett today announced a lengthy state prison sentence for a Harrisburg religious leader arrested by the Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit after using Internet chat rooms to sexually proposition two undercover agents who were using the online identities of 12-year old girls.

Child predator - Mojecki

Steven Jacob Mojecki, 47, 2008 Bradley Drive, Harrisburg, was sentenced today in Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas to a term of 5-to-10 years, to be served in a state prison, along with a $500 fine, on a charge of criminal solicitation of unlawful contact with a minor. Additionally, Mojecki was sentenced to a prison term of 9-to-18 months, along with a $100 fine, on a charge of criminal use of a computer. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

Corbett said that following today’s sentencing Mojecki was immediately taken into custody. He will be transferred to the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill for processing and prison assignment by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

“Child predators are stalking the Internet on a daily basis, looking for young victims,” Corbett said. “Lengthy prison sentences, combined with the vigorous enforcement efforts of the Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit, send a clear message that Internet predators are not welcome in Pennsylvania - and that law enforcement and the courts have little tolerance for adults who attempt to sexually victimize children.”

Corbett said that Mojecki was arrested by the Child Predator Unit on Feb. 22, 2006, after repeatedly expressing his desire to have sexual contact with agents who were using the undercover identities of young girls. Mojecki was convicted in Dauphin County Court on March 19, 2007.

Corbett explained that the Child Predator Unit was created to conduct proactive undercover investigations in order to identify and arrest Internet predators before they can harm children. Mojecki was the 40th arrest by the Child Predator Unit. Since its creation in January 2005, the Child Predator Unit has arrested 88 Internet predators and has a 100% conviction rate.

“I encourage parents to discuss Internet safety with their children, including the dangers of meeting anyone who approaches them online,” Corbett said. “It is equally important to report predators who sexually solicit children online, or who send them sexually graphic photos or videos.”

Internet predators can be reported to the Child Predator Unit by calling 1-800-385-1044, or online at the Attorney General’s website.

Detailed information about Internet safety is also available in the “Operation Safe Surf” and “Just 4 Kids” sections of the Attorney General’s website.
