Re: Nine Eleven
September 11, 2007
I am just mostly remembering that day, my daughter one week away from having her first baby, where I was, how I felt.
I also remember the first anniversary. We were driving from Wellsboro to Erie and went through Coudersport and had vehicle trouble. We had to make a two hour layover to get truck repairs and I wandered through the town, stopped into a church for a few minutes and then literally stumbled into their First Anniversary of 911 Remembrance Ceremony in the town square. It was so typically small town to me, with the ambulances and fire trucks and the mayor and elderly veterans and mothers with their children climbing on the statues, and people coming out on their lunch hours…. I felt like I had wandered into anther world. Everyone was so sincere and no one was there “to be seen” as so often happens when these things are held in a big city. They were just there as small-town Americans, to remember.
