By the way. The Mets suck!
Okay, so we’re dancin’ in the streets, woohooing out car windows, popping champagne, the Fanatic is falling out of the dugout, Bill Giles is being doused, and the fans still at the stadium are being firehosed.
I agree, the Mets suck, but we’ve never forgotten 1964.
And hey, you’re talking to someone who just spent the last two weeks hunched over a fading in-and-out radio in the Allegheny Wilds following our gallant lads through extra innings! If a bear had come into camp, we’d have stayed there! And the people in nearby cabins all knew there were Philadelphians on the loose. Since we got better reception outside, thank God the weather and the firewoood held out, although I don’t think my ash-covered boombox will ever be the same. And try to find a newspaper up there that even cared that the Phillies were literally crawling their way back up by their fingernails.
I will be watching the League challenge just as closely as you. My hopes are just as high as yours. But, a Philly fan must have an exceptionally strong constitution. My jaded remarks are only a defense against heartbreak.
